Ford Focus is a good car - not saviour of the world
Is it just me who finds the latest Ford ad annoying?
I don't normally plug car ads because I have noticed they never plug my car columns - hello you lucky Middlesbrough Gazette and Newcastle Chronicle readers, you are in for a treat this Friday - in their adverts but for this I will make an an exception.
I think it is for the Focus, so already it is not working as advertised by the agency boys.
All I remember about it is how we are meant to belive that buying a Ford will help the gestation of baby elephants, dolphins and, surprise surprise, Whitey the polar bear.
rest assured, buying a Focus will do nothing to help the reproductive cycle of any of these mammals. Fords do not enhance the sex life of whales. They can't get in the back seat.
Look, this borders on the dishonest. Not least the suggestion that cars somehow threaten the wellbeing of various bedtime story favourite animals. When is the last time you saw a dolphin run over?
And here are a few things you should know about our old murderous pal Whitey bear in the hood. Firstly, he is not white, he is sort of dirty-tooth yellow, so come clean to the kids this bedtime. Second he is at his most successful in terms of numbers since records began. Seals, however, are not, so bears are wandering further afield for nosh. Including the Ford canteen at Dagenham, obviously. Oh and worry not about melting ice, polar bears are great swimmers and there is a record of two making the crossing from Greenland to Iceland. That's some swim and I am certain they did not go by Iceland Air.
By the way, when they wandered ashore, to the consternation of passing investment bankers, the stout Vikings of the nord took immediate affirmative action. They shot them.
Lastly, they also frequently wander into Canada to bonk the native grizzly bears, which makes polar genetics even more difficult to unravel.
So come on Ford, you ain't saving a world that isn't even under threat. You are making a very good, cost effective family car which will enable Mr and Mrs Housing estate to spend money on the things that really matter. Their lives and children.
