Now pay attention Bond...
Last weekend was spent with Peugeot, driving and testing a number of models before climbing into the old penguin suit for a private showing of Quantum of Solace in the buzzing heart of Manchester.
Or Anthony Wilsonburg as it is to be renamed.
Trogging about in and out of cinemas dressed as a wine waiter is an interesting experience.
Such is the human psyche that a party so attired is immediately suspected of having some celebrity status: "Oooh, look at them, who's that? That's the one out of the papers and I've seen him on the telly. It's 'im from wots its thing...."
Madam, if you were pointing at me you have a great memory. It is some time since Mr Blobby graced the small screen.
Anyway, the film is quite good but just as different from the accepted 007 genre at Casino Royale. Bond films have moved away from naked flesh and gadgets to become some kind of cinematographic car showroom.
Not only was there the usual raft of wrecked Astons - 11 were totalled in the making of the film - but Ford get in there with the new Ka.
That's just for starters. Land Rovers belonging to the Carabinieri feature in the opening sequence, a lone battered Beetle exists to demonstrate the gulf between rich and poor while Ford's hydrogen Kuga project could be no more in your face in the final scene if it had driven up the centre aisle and goosed the wife.
Oh, and the embassy Range Rover, of course.
Pure fantasy abounds, action sequences that would kill any mere mortal were they not stunted up and shooting so off target at times I thought I was watching West Brom.
What am not having, however, is the sequence where two Alfa Romeos chase Bond in his Aston for at least five minutes. Without breaking down. I'm not having that.
