Ford Focus appeal latest

Posted by Steve Orme on October 29, 2008 12:38 PM |

The response to my Ford Focus appeal all that time ago has never ceased to amaze me.
I know the RAC website did a lot and then Watchdog did its bit, for Watchdog, but still they come and the good news is that most people are either passing on home-grown fixes for the instrument problem or telling me that they have been paid out by Ford.

Yesterday Jess from Pennsylvania, USA wrote: "I have a 2004 Ford Focus Station Wagon. A few weeks ago my gauges stopped responding - speed, gas, temp (analogue). Did some research - not in a position to go to a dealership or repair shop for hopes that they could fix it. Found this site and the DIY instructions - and they were RIGHT on the nose. Little WD40, a few curse words from dropping screws and contorting myself around the steering wheel, but it's fixed! At least for now! Thanks for having this up here... "
You're welcome, Jess.
Kevin Mathews (read him on http://kevinmatthews.blogspot.com/) is another satisfied customer with money in the bank from Ford.
While all this is going on I have to view cars objectively...and last week I was driving a Ford Focus two-litre diesel Powershift. It is therefore purely in the interests of balance that I have to report that this excellent, comfortable and frugal car, er, had a problem with its instruments.
Right out of the blue I got mechanical fault warnings, pings and a message that the aux heater was off. Whatever that is.
Keep them coming and I will be sure to let you know of any other manufacturing faults on other makes. Starting with the Renault key card that costs £190 to replace when it breaks just weeks out of warranty. That's tomorrow.
