'Perverse' councils attacked over fines

Posted by Steve Orme on May 30, 2008 10:00 AM |

Just a quick one.
So some jumped up little desk botherer at Haringey Council wonders if it is best use of public money to return fines wrongly collected from motorists.

Nick Lester, from London Councils, which represents authorities in the capital, argued that handing the cash back was not necessarily in the public interest.
Look matey boy, it’s not public money, it was wrongly removed from private wallets
He said: "Where there's only a technical error, a small issue, where no-one was genuinely misled, the council can take the view, is it really a good use of public money to repay the penalty?
Oh no pal, you get it lashed out on a vegetarian diversification buffet party. And should any more Brinks Mat dosh show up, let the villains keep it, I mean clearly anyone who illegally takes money off someone else should be allowed to spend it. Too right.
