Now Daihatsu offers five-year warranty - time for better value all round

I’m not dragging my sorry bottom around the internet just to give you the effluvia of press release spin but...

Very quickly, Daihatsu, after a trial period offering five year warranties on the Terios and Sirion, is adding this cover to the rest of its range.
Now, this alone is no reason to drive a Sirion although the Terios is an impressive baby 4x4. However, this could start the ball rolling. Kia will guarantee their cars seven years, Hyundai five and now Daihatsu.
Is it really reasonable to expect a product costing, shall we say for an average, £16,000 to have a three-year warranty. And don’t give me the old six-year corrosion stuff. A rust free car is no good if its internals are up the swanee. Or its instrument cluster backed in after four years. Hello Ford!
You get 12 months with a £250 washing machine and if mine broke down in the first three years would be asking some pointed questions down at Currys.
Motor retailing is under pressure. The market is 13% down and still there is a conviction that all you need to do to sell cars is wear a sharp suit and stand around the showroom looking disinterested.
The whole industry needs to ask itself if maximum value for money is being given.
Actually I’ll save everyone from the shop floor to the boardroom the trouble. The answer is no.
