Continental capers from the DfT

Posted by Steve Orme on April 23, 2008 2:53 PM |

A couple of weeks ago someone with nothing to ban in the Department for Transportation of motorists came up with the wheeze of reducing the drink-drive limit to 50mg, “as it is on the continent.

And no one really had much to say. But they should because that is not the drink drive limit on the continent, it is one of them. In France, for instance the 50mg limit gets you some points, the next one up earns a short ban and the level at which you start crashing armoured Mercedes’ into the Alma tunnel wall lands the top prize but no cigar.
No surprise than that yesterday part two of this exceptional new initiative was revealed, er, that the 50mg limit would only attract six points and a fine, no ban required.
That’ll be just like the continent than.
Try and keep up at the back.
