Learn to love the GATSO
Following on from yesterday’s I don’t believe feature, the Institute of Advanced Motorists, that worthy body that taught us in days of old how to drive while balancing a house brick on the transmission tunnel* claims that over 70% of motorists have come to love the speed camera as surely as we all came to love the bomb.
However, 72% think the idea of cameras is to raise revenue and they are not always placed at accident black spots.
No way!
Any suggestion that most drivers do not see cameras as a money grabbing, conviction-obsession of plods and councils is on a par with the idea that life was better in the days of rampant polio and diphtheria.
The worst of driving is still out there and only at a lower speed in the 100 metres surrounding a fixed instrument.
Of course police, camera, action has freed up officers to tackle and reduce the sort of violent crime that has seen 15 shootings in Liverpool since the new year. Excellent work!
*NB: For the disgustingly youthful among you a transmission tunnel was something that ran the length of a car to accommodate the prop shaft. This was in the days of rear wheel drive and before nancy boy Potter front-wheel-drive with all its idiot proof characteristics. Mind you, when you have lost a FWD car you have really lost it.
