Driving in Portsmouth is just one big yawn

Flouting the law big style

Whatever the law is on driving while using a mobile it is being ignored.I say whatever because some drivers have been done for the most innocuous of things, moving a phone to the passenger seat for instance, while a growing number seem to think it’s year of the mobile and can’t get off the things even in the most distracting of circumstances, you know, upside down in a field and that sort of carry on.
But this one really beats me.

Almost half of us text and drive at the same time.
Now frankly, I don’t believe this any more than I believe in fairies. Well, okay one or two.
The speed I text at I would be in Birmingham before getting ‘I’ll be late’ off. The only possibility is that half of all the drivers in the UK are court stenographers. which clearly would leave no room for the defendant.

You can always buy a carphone...
What I also can’t believe is that out there are a host of drivers who beat themselves around the head to stay awake. Or that the Government is shocked to find 54% of drivers try to beat previous journey times. Imagine that. Or that lots of them are very tired through being on the road all day.

Or even a bicycle phone
What also stretches credulity is that the whole of Portsmouth is now a 20mph zone. Or that new ‘eco towns’ will be 15mph throughout.
Clearly, then, if you are in the habit of composing fulsome reports on your mobile the safest place will be Greensville, Rainbowland. And the traffic Pompey is going to move so slowly you may well fall asleep.
