Top Technician 2008 is open for entries and you can nominate one - via the web site www.toptechnician.co.uk. Entrants will be sent details of how to access the first stage online test. The deadline for completing this test is Friday 18 January 08.
Now come on let’s be fair. When you take your car in and some chimp-fisted Tyrone can’t find the boot release the whole pub gets to know about it.
But what about the times when you are saved by a knight in greasy overalls?
I’m going to put forward my mate Crazy Dave at Lathom Autocare, the self combusting king of the weld.
Not only can Dave weld fog, he could make an exhaust to fit a sparrow and has been seen to catch fire in public places unaided.
He can also read a diagnostic machine like we read newspapers.
Oh but his other talents astound. Steel shafts for broken hammers, unique tools for unlocking tight freewheeling hubs and a barbecue lovingly heat carved from a multi-fuel burner.
Best of all, with very little help from me, he brought my big red Toy Boata back to life. That’s a story I’ll tell you one day.
