Silence is not golden

Brunel University has a driving research laboratory which means it is duty bound to do a bit of research on driving.
So boffins there have had a poke about outside and come up with the theory that modern cars are unsafe because they are designed too well. Yes, and going into orbit in hot air balloon is safer than the space shuttle.
Apparently people who own older less refined cars are more aware of their driving through engine and road noise, you know clunks and grinds that you don’t get in a 2007 model Audi.
This, research proves, means drivers are more aware of speed without looking at- wait for it- the speedometer.
Look lads, the reason drivers of bangers are more aware of a bit of the old scraping and grinding is that they fully expect to break down at any moment.
As for checking your speed, well the speedo certainly beats your watch for that.
